Coastal Wildlife & Pest Control Services removes rats, squirrels, raccoons, bats and snakes from Arlington homes, then seals every entry point and cleans the attic so they don’t come back. Free inspections, and animals inside the living space get priority scheduling.
Arlington grew fast after the Mathews Bridge opened in 1953. For about two decades it grew faster than any other part of Jacksonville. That means much of the housing here is now 50 to 70 years old: ranch homes with wood soffits, gable vents, roof returns and original roof penetrations that have had decades to rot, warp and pull apart.
Then look at the setting. The St. Johns River runs along the west and north, the Arlington River along the south, and Intracoastal marsh along the east. The Timucuan Preserve surrounds Fort Caroline, and mature live oaks shade most streets. The result is a lot of wildlife living within a branch's reach of a lot of aging rooflines.
Wildlife pressure isn't the same across Arlington. It follows the water, the tree cover and the age of the homes.
| Area | Setting | Animals it tends to draw |
|---|---|---|
| Old Arlington & Clifton | Riverfront lots, the oldest homes and the largest oaks | Roof rats, squirrels, raccoons |
| Arlington Hills, Lake Lucina, Holiday Hill & Woodland Acres | 1950s–60s ranch homes under heavy oak canopy | Roof rats and squirrels in soffits and gables |
| Fort Caroline & Hidden Hills | Wooded lots near the Timucuan Preserve and river marsh | Raccoons, bats, snakes |
| Jacksonville University area | River frontage, older homes and wooded lots | Squirrels, raccoons, bats |
| Regency, Sandalwood & Beacon Hills | 1960s–80s subdivisions with retention ponds | Rats, snakes, armadillos |
Here's a story we hear a lot: the homeowner has been setting snap traps for weeks and still hears scratching overhead at night. Trapping removes the rats that are already inside. It does nothing about the next ones.
In Northeast Florida attics, the problem is almost always the roof rat. It climbs well, travels along oak limbs, power lines and fences to reach the roof, and can fit through a gap about half an inch wide, roughly the size of a quarter. On a 60-year-old roofline, gaps like that are common.

Squirrels chew through soffits and roof returns, especially in late winter and again in late summer, when females look for a safe place to nest. We use one-way doors so squirrels can leave but can't get back in, then permanently seal the opening. Squirrel removal details.
Raccoons are strong enough to tear open soffits and roof vents. In spring, females den in attics to raise their young. Every raccoon job includes a check for babies so none are left behind, followed by repairs to the damaged area. Raccoon removal details.
The river and marsh edges around Arlington produce a lot of insects, and bats follow. They roost behind shutters, under roof tiles and in attics. Florida law protects bats during maternity season, April 16 through August 14, and exclusion isn't allowed in that window. Outside it, we install one-way exclusion devices so the bats leave on their own, then seal the openings. Bat removal details.
Price depends on the job. One raccoon in a one-story ranch home is a very different job from a rat colony in a two-story house with years of droppings in the insulation. That's why we inspect first, for free, and give you a written price before any work starts.
Many wildlife warranties come with fine print. Ours is simple. The only things that void it are a roof replacement or an act of God, like a hurricane or fire. Animals getting back in, new scratching in the attic, or a repair that needs another look are all covered.
“We discovered that we had hundreds of bats living in our attic and called a few different places to remediate the problem. Coastal was the only one that offered an extensive cleaning solution… After properly closing all of the access holes in our house, they did an extensive cleaning job.”
“Our issue was a racoon that decided to invade our attic, take up residence, and build a nest. It was a difficult spot to access, due to location high up under a 2 story eave in an older home… Potential entry points are now secured as well as can be done with our older home, and we feel we made the right decision hiring Coastal.”

Trapping removes the rats already inside, but it doesn't close the gaps they used to get in. A roof rat can fit through an opening about half an inch wide, and older Arlington homes often have several. New rats keep moving in until every gap is sealed.
Not by exclusion. Florida bat maternity season runs April 16 through August 14, and exclusion isn't allowed then because flightless pups would be trapped inside. We can inspect and plan the job during that window, then install one-way exclusion devices once the season ends.
Yes. We remove droppings, nesting material and contaminated insulation, then treat the area with a biological enzyme that breaks down the scent trail other animals follow in. We can also replace the insulation with TAP pest control insulation.
Yes. Our warranty covers animals getting back in, new noises and the repairs we made. The only things that void it are a roof replacement or an act of God such as a hurricane or fire.
