How To Get Rid Of Bats In My Attic

Bats typically roost in caves, which are dark, warm, and sheltered from the elements – just like the attics of our homes. Unfortunately, many bats in the Jacksonville area have begun to roost in the attics of local homes. Within your attic, bats can cause a huge amount of damage with their corrosive guano. 

If you’re worried about a bat presence in your attic, follow these tips to get rid of them:

• Install a one-way exit over the bats’ entry point that allows bats to fly out of your attic but won’t let them back in. It may take a few days, but all of the bats should vacate your attic. Once all the bats have exited, seal off all entry holes so that bats cannot get into your attic again. You may also need to place mesh covers over exterior vents to keep bats out.
• Turn on floodlights in your attic. Bats are nocturnal creatures, so bright lights of this type will likely irritate them and drive them away.
• Place a radio in your attic and turn the volume up. Because they have sensitive ears, bats can also be driven away with loud noises like this.
• Fill your attic with scents that bats dislike, such as mothballs, peppermint, and eucalyptus. These scent-based deterrents will make your attic unappealing to bats and encourage them to leave.
