TAP® (Thermal, Acoustical, Pest Control) is a loose-fill cellulose insulation made from 85% recycled paper and treated with borate — a naturally occurring mineral compound that is permanently lethal to many insects.
It is the only insulation product registered as a pesticide by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and it can only be installed by licensed pest control professionals like Coastal Wildlife & Pest Control.
Unlike traditional insulation that only adds thermal value, TAP® works around the clock to help control more than 30 pest species while improving comfort and efficiency in your home. No annual re-treatment. No separate attic pesticide program. Just one smart upgrade.
Each letter in TAP® represents a measurable benefit you get the moment it’s installed in your attic.
T — Thermal Performance: R-value of 3.6–3.8 per inch, fills gaps fiberglass misses, and can reduce annual heating and cooling costs by up to 30%.
A — Acoustical Sound Dampening: Dense cellulose helps reduce exterior noise and creates a quieter, more comfortable home.
P — Pest Control: Borate-treated fibers help control ants, roaches, termites, silverfish, and many other insects for the life of the insulation.
Most homes can be completed in 2–4 hours with minimal disruption. Our process is clean, fast, and built around long-term results.
TAP® can often be installed over existing insulation, making it a practical upgrade for homeowners who want better comfort and better pest protection without a major renovation.

TAP® vs. standard fiberglass:
TAP® provides insulation, sound dampening, and built-in insect control in one install.
Yes. Once installation is complete, TAP® insulation is safe for normal occupancy. The borate treatment has very low mammalian toxicity and is locked into the insulation fibers.
In many homes, yes. During your attic inspection, we measure your existing insulation and confirm whether TAP® can be added directly over it or whether any prep work is needed first.
No. Borate does not break down like liquid pest treatments, so the insect-control benefit remains in place for the life of the insulation.
Most residential installs take about 2–4 hours, depending on attic size, access, and the amount of material required.
Usually yes, but we inspect first. If there are active entry points, moisture issues, or wildlife concerns, we’ll address those conditions as part of the recommendation.
Pricing depends on attic square footage, current insulation depth, and the target coverage level. We provide a clear quote after the inspection.
Because TAP® is also an EPA-registered pesticide, it must be installed by licensed professionals who understand both insulation performance and pest-control application standards.
